Late March is harvest season — vineyards heavy with ripe grapes, estates buzzing with activity. Private cellar tours in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, the Wine Tram, 1,200 Indian Runner Ducks marching through Vergenoegd. Calitzdorp port — South Africa's best-kept wine secret.

Safari at sunrise
A morning Big 5 game drive at Garden Route Game Lodge — lion, white rhino, giraffe, buffalo, in a malaria-free reserve 30 minutes from Mossel Bay. Then the Knysna Elephant Park: rescued elephants walked alongside, touched, watched bathing. Two completely different wildlife encounters in one journey.

Bo-Kaap with a local host — tuk-tuks through the colourful streets with someone who actually lives there. An afternoon at the KKNK arts festival in Oudtshoorn: puppet shows, live theatre, the Klein Karoo coming alive. Real people, real stories — nothing staged for tourists.
